Into The Wild

Monica

Hey all, I'm Monica. I'm 20 years of age (almost 21!) and a third year student at The University of Toledo studying Environmental Studies. I live at home with my mommy, little sister, three puppy dogs (Onyx, Sundae, Waldo) and bunbun Floyd. Commuting sucks. I'm not sure what I want my career title to be, I just know that I want to do a multitude of things like travelling and helping people/communities develop sustainable ways of living. I have changed my major three times, pharmacy-ecology-environmental science and finally to environmental studies. I'll probably be at UT forever because I still want to take classes that I don't need, like women's studies, a class on climate change (I don't know why this isn't required for all environmental students), personal finance, and I'm sure a couple others that I haven't found out about yet. But hey, I'm paying for it so I'm going to get what I want out of it!

I've lived in the same small Ohio town my whole life, and up until this past Summer I didn't truly appreciate it. My friend and I decided to utilize the garden that had been unused for the past two years, since my Dad moved out. I realized how much beauty was in this little area of Northwest Ohio, like the ability to have such a large garden in a small, quiet, friendly town. Granted we didn't plant as successful or organized garden as we had hoped, but at least I know what I want to do for next year. Trust me, I'm already making plans! We lived on School Street for the first four years of my life, then we moved to an apartment for a few months while our current home was being built. During our stay at the apartment, I contracted e.coli and was hospitalized for over a week, mostly because the doctors gave me a drug that I ended up being highly allergic to. We've been in our current home for about seventeen years, and I still love it. I know this is pathetic, but I'll probably live with my Mom for at least a couple more years until I get my bachelor's degree; I'm not 100% sure what I'll do after that, but then again who is? I have a very close and open relationship with my Mom and sister, so I'm not in too much of a hurry to leave. Plus, how on earth could I leave my darlings?!

Waldo, Onyx, Sundae. I don't have many pictures of Onyx because she's too dark to see!

OMG!
Waldo and Sundae Moo!
Precious Floyd!

I've had a boyfriend since April 2011. The manner in which we came to be a couple still baffles me, it was so ironic and just adorable. I won't get into details, but we met on OKCupid. Check it out, it's a really cool site. Well it was when I was on it, not sure of what it's like now. His name is Jack. He is practical, responsible, so smart and funny. He's a really good at balancing my free spirit and OCD tendencies, which I'm really thankful for. We have so much fun together whether it's cooking, playing video games, watching Friends, watching movies, or just hanging out. My immediate family and friends just love him, and that's really important to me. I'm sure I will bring him up a few times in my blog!
